Transferring Video tapes (VHS, cVHS, Mini DV, Dv8) to DVD or PEN-DRIVE is an excellent way to preserve your memories for the future.

Videotapes from the late 80s and early 90s are now starting to deteriorate with Mildew which destroys your videos forever.

Most tapes will be ok if stored in a dry dust free environment, however damaged tapes fall into two categories

Might be salvageable

  • Damaged casing, snarled and tangled video footage
  •   Video tape snapped or come off the reel
  • Video tapes ejected by the player or refuse to play

Might not be salvagable

  • When lines appear on the screen for the whole length of the recording
  • Vertical scrolling of the image on the screen
  • Problems with the sound on the video tape
  • Video recordings with sound but no picture
  •  Very mouldy video tapes

Video tape transfer work is undertaken on the basis that you are the video copyright owner OR that you have been given permission from the copyright owner to duplicate the tape. Commercial VHS tapes can be copied to DVD if you were the original purchaser of the material.  Legally, one copy of the DVD from the VHS video tape can be made.

Most Smart TVs can accept a range of different video formats through their USB inputs. However, the most common standard is MP4, unless you request a different format that is what will be used for your videos. i.e. AVI, MPG, MOV

DVD’s generally last a lifetime and can be played an unlimited amount of times without loss of quality.  However, one scratch or scuff mark on the DVD might render it unplayable; an extra back-up copy of your DVD is advisable, or put it on a USB
